Here’s something to look forward to in September.
LucasFilm popped up at an AnimeExpo Lite panel to reveal a sneak peek at its upcoming anime anthology series Star Wars: Visions. The series is set to premiere on 22 September, 2021 on Disney+ with episodes animated by multiple studios. Think along the lines of Netflix’s Love Death + Robots - but more in the vein of Star Wars.
Watch the trailer below:

Anime and Star Wars feels like a slam dunk concept, and this trailer does nothing to convince me otherwise. The video teases Visions' episodes from the perspective of their Japanese creators. They come in various animation styles, ranging from an Astro Boy homage to chibi Boba Fett. The episodes aren’t all action-adventure stories you’d expect from Star Wars, either. There are some romance and rock opera-like shorts in the mix too.
Lots of animation studios you might be familiar with are involved in Visions, including Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill). Here’s a full list of Vision’s episode titles, and the studios that animated them:
- Kamikaze Douga - The Duel
- Geno Studio - Lop and Ochō
- Studio Colorido - Tatooine Rhapsody
- Trigger - The Twins
- Trigger - The Elder
- Kinema Citrus - The Village Bride
- Science Saru - Akakiri
- Science Saru - T0-B1
- Production IG - The Ninth Jedi
The series will debut in just two months on 22 September, via Disney+. Who’s looking forward to that Jedi samurai episode?
