Marvel’s big blockbuster series is almost here!

Disney has released one last trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ahead of its premiere this Friday, giving us a meaty look at the series’ big action sequences and Falcon practicing with Captain America’s shield.

Thankfully, the trailer doesn’t give away much from the Disney+ series - we still don’t have a proper look at characters like U.S. Agent or Baron Zemo, for example. What we do get is a closer look at the antagonists - a group collectively called ‘Flag-Smasher’, though their intentions are still unknown. It also looks like Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson are a little lost at sea without Captain America around, with Sam unsure of whether he should take up the shield.

As Bucky puts it, “That shield represents a lot of things to a lot of people.” The series appears to be a successor to the Captain America trilogy both in story and spirit with big explosions, hand-to-hand fights and an intense tone running through everything. On top of dealing with Flag-Smasher, Sam and Bucky will have to contend with returning villain Baron Zemo and U.S. Agent, the government’s elected successor to Captain America.

One thing’s clear: this is a much more traditional installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than WandaVision, though it seems to hold plenty of secrets too. If you were to show me this trailer without any context, I wouldn’t guess in a million years that it’s a TV show and not a movie - but the streaming era is full of surprises.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on Disney+ on 19 March. Subscribe here, if you haven’t already.
