Over the weekend, Frozen II became the sixth Disney movie in 2019 to reach US$1 billion worldwide at the box office. Together with the launch of its Disney+ streaming service and the positive reception to The Mandalorian, 2019 is sure shaping up to be one of the best years for Disney.
In fact, Avengers: Endgame made over US$2 billion to become the highest grossing movie of all time, helping Disney break its own annual global box office record in July with US$7.67 billion, topping the US$7.61 billion it pulled in for the whole of 2016.
Here's a look at exactly how much these six Disney movies made in 2019, starting right at the top:
- Avengers: Endgame - US$2.79 billion
- The Lion King - US$1.65 billion
- Captain Marvel - US$1.13 billion
- Toy Story 4 - US$1.07 billion
- Aladdin - US$1.05 billion
- Frozen II - US$1.03 billion
That's six out of the year's top 10 grossing films, an impressive figure. The other four not on the list are Spider-Man: Far From Home, Joker, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and Ne Zha. And if you consider the fact that Disney owns Marvel, it technically had a hand in Spider-Man too, even though Sony distributes the film.

If there was any doubt that this year was the year of Disney, just remember that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens today. This is the film that will bring the decades-long Star Wars trilogies to a close, and it's highly likely that it'll become the company's seventh film to top US$1 billion globally, truly solidifying Disney's dominance at the box office.
