Fans who kept hope alive for the return of Apple TV+'s beloved comedy Ted Lasso can now officially celebrate. Apple has confirmed that the feel-good series about a charmingly optimistic American coach navigating the highs and lows of English football is gearing up for a fourth season.
Jason Sudeikis, co-creator and star of the show, returns as Ted Lasso, and will again take up executive producer duties. The announcement marks a surprising comeback, given that Sudeikis and the show's creators—Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence—had initially suggested the series would conclude after its third run, which ended in May 2023.
In the press release from Apple, Jason says: “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap, in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to leap before they look, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
This seems to signal a possible shift in tone or narrative approach for the upcoming episodes.
Ted Lasso first kicked off in August 2020 and quickly became a staple on Apple TV+ through its blend of gentle humour, earnest storytelling, and character-driven plots. Besides Jason, Apple has also confirmed Brett Goldstein, famous for his role as the blunt yet endearing Roy Kent, will return behind the scenes as both writer and executive producer. However, it's still unclear which other familiar faces from the original cast will make their comeback.
No release date has been given yet, but the renewal itself should provide enough excitement to tide fans over for now.
