Video game adaptations have been having their moment, with The Last of Us, Fallout, and even Minecraft making the jump to film or television. Now, Activision is bringing one of gaming’s biggest franchises to the big screen, with Paramount officially signing on to produce a live-action Call of Duty feature film.

According to Paramount’s press release, the company will develop, produce, and distribute the movie globally. Details are scant at the moment, but both Paramount and Activision have promised to stay true to the series’ identity – we can expect the cinematic, high-stakes military action that Call of Duty is known for. Without a confirmed cast or even a director, it may be a while before we even get to see the first trailer. Still, this could be the Call of Duty blockbuster film franchise that Activision has long been hoping to build.

Paramount is no stranger to adapting games for the big screen too. Its Sonic the Hedgehog films have been box-office hits, and the studio has prior experience with game-to-movie adaptations dating back to the first Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001.
