In case you missed it, Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch recently crossed over the billion dollar mark in the box office, becoming one of the entertainment giant’s most successful films this year. And now, it’s moving from the big screen to people’s homes, as the movie will soon be available on Disney+. Specifically, the movie will come to Disney’s streaming service on 3 September.
Lilo & Stitch follows the antics of its titular characters, the former a Hawaiian girl and the latter an alien posing as a pet to escape from intergalactic authorities, all set against the tropical backdrop of the Hawaiian islands.
The film furthered the trend of Disney adapting their older animated films into live-action movies. It’s a trend that’s been going on for a while now, but Lilo & Stitch surpassed expectations when it launched, grossing US$100 million on its opening weekend and becoming the first Motion Picture Association (MPA) film of this year to rake in a billion dollars.
And Disney isn’t letting this go to waste; just a month after the film’s release, it announced that a sequel to Lilo & Stitch had entered development:
All thanks to a plucky six year old and her alien companion trying to find their ‘Ohana.
