The 10 TV shows and films you should absolutely binge in October
From spooky ghosts and cloning shenanigans to superhero shows and thrillers, there's a lot of good stuff coming out in October for you to binge.
With prestige TV shows rising in popularity (and they don't seem to be stopping!), there's always something to watch, isn't there? It can be hard sometimes to sort through all the streaming services and TV channels to see what they have to offer every month - because sometimes, there's just too much!
October’s no exception either. It’s jammed full of promising TV shows and movies, new and old. Here’s my personal pick for the top 10 movies and TV shows you absolutely need to check out next month, in order of release date:
Raising Dion (October 4) - Netflix

Raising Dion is a superhero show with a twist. Nicole Reese struggles with raising her son Dion after her husband passes away - and those struggles only get worse when he manifests several superpowers. She’ll have to keep his abilities secret, and protect him from antagonistic forces that want to exploit him. Alisha Wainwright, Michael B. Jordan and Jason Ritter star.
Peaky Blinders Series 5 (October 4) - Netflix

Alright, so this isn't technically a new release - Series 5 of Peaky Blinders completed its run in the UK a while ago, but let's be honest. This show found its footing worldwide when it hit Netflix, to the point many mistake it for being a Netflix original. Tommy Shelby has transformed from a small-time criminal to a corrupt government official, but that doesn't mean he has time to rest. More threats are rising against him from all sides - or is that just his growing paranoia?
In the Tall Grass (October 4) - Netflix

Nowadays, every year is a good year for Stephen King fans. In 2019 alone, we've seen adaptations of IT, Pet Sematary and soon we'll see Doctor Sleep. For now though, horror fans can sink their teeth into this film adaptation of Stephen King's In the Tall Grass. Two siblings wander into a field of grass after hearing a boy cry for help - but can't seem to find a way out. Delightful!
Dolemite is My Name (October 4) - Netflix

This will be a treat to fans who miss Eddie Murphy's glory days in comedy. Dolemite is My Name is a biographical comedy on Rudy Ray Moore, played by Eddie Murphy. Rudy's a filmmaker, but more famously known for portraying Dolemite, a controversial character he made up. This movie has a pretty stacked cast: Keegan-Michael Key, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Titus Burgess, Wesley Snipes and even Snoop Dogg!
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (October 11) - Netflix

One of the best TV series of all time is coming back - in movie form. Breaking Bad ended absolutely perfectly - with Walter White getting what he deserved and Jesse Pinkman finally escaping from his captors after months of being held prisoner. The one loose end the show left behind was whether Jesse successfully escaped or ran right into the arms of the police - either way, we're about to find out how Jesse's story ends.
Haunted Season 2 (October 11) - Netflix

This particular Netflix show is based on true and very spooky stories. Each episode has someone talking about a paranormal experience that they personally went through, while the show shows you what those events might have looked like for dramatic effect. Sure none of these stories might be actually true, but hey - it might make for a good Halloween binge!
Modern Love (October 18) - Amazon Prime

Don’t roll your eyes just yet! This show is based on eight true stories from a weekly column in The New York Times. It’s packed full of big names - Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Dev Patel, Andrew Scott, Andy Garcia and Sofia Boutella just to name a few. This show explores all kinds of love - be it from family, spouses, friends or yourself. Watch for the big names, stay for the gooey heartwarming goodness.
Living With Yourself (October 18) - Netflix

Ask yourself a question. What’s better than one Paul Rudd? Two Paul Rudds! Paul Rudd stars as Miles Elliot, a very unhappy man who makes an ill-advised decision to clone himself. He proceeds to suddenly wake up in a grave, and journeys home to find out that a better, healthier and happier version of himself has taken over his life. Talk about nightmare scenarios.
Looking for Alaska (October 18) - Hulu

If you’re a fan of John Green’s books or just love being sad in general - this one’s for you. This series is an adaptation of John Green’s very first book of the same name, centred around two teenagers - Miles and Alaska. Miles falls in love with Alaska, but soon realises there’s more to her than meets the eye. Bring your tissues, this will be brutal.
Watchmen (October 20) - HBO and HBO GO

This is easily my most anticipated series of the year. Watchmen is set several years after the events of Alan Moore’s graphic novel. Police have resorted to wearing masks to conceal their true identities, while a cult has surfaced, worshipping Rorschach who by this point is long dead. Ozymandias and Doctor Manhattan will be making appearances in this show - and who knows what they’ll be up to. This all comes from the mind of Damon Lindelof, who created The Leftovers - my personal pick for the best TV show of all time.
