SEGA has boarded the commemorative perfume bandwagon with Yakuza, Sonic and Shenmue colognes

Well, it seems like Capcom now has another competitor in the field of "commemorative game perfumes". And it's SEGA, no less.

Admittedly, SEGA isn't really commemorating anything by releasing the new batch of colognes, which were created in conjunction with Numskull Designs and inspired by the Shenmue, Yakuza, and Sonic the Hedgehog franchises. Perhaps they're doing it just to poke fun at the spread of Resident Evil colognes Capcom announced earlier this year - either that or the SEGA EU marketing team just happens to have a little too much time on their hands. Regardless of the reason, seeing game companies dabble in a field so far removed from what they usually do is amusing, but none of that addresses the elephant in the room - what do these new colognes smell like?

Thankfully, SEGA has done up rather detailed and swanky descriptions for each of the new colognes on their website, and they're unisex too, so they make great birthday gifts for both guys and gals. First up is the Shenmue-inspired Tobacco and Gold cologne, which features "top notes of flashing cardamom and bergamot, smouldering golden tobacco, deep orris, and a strong patchouli base", resulting in a scent that's "rebellious and addictive".

The second in line is the Yakuza-inspired Bourbon and Smoke cologne. This "bold and intriguing" perfume features a "deep and mysterious scent of antique oak, cedarwood, beeswax infused with smoky bourbon, leathery rose and scorching pimento.", and it promises to leave you "smelling like the Tojo Clan's finest crime boss!".

Last but not least is the Sonic the Hedgehog-inspired cologne, which is aptly titled Blue Blur. This one has a "gorgeous, refreshing scent" and "boasts an aroma of fresh citrus, a zing of grapefruit zest and exotic lemon and lime, topped with the scene of the ocean breeze and chilled melon fade.". Yeah, that's quite a mouthful to process, even for me.

Regarding price and availability, the three colognes are only available for pre-order via the SEGA EU store, costing about 30 euros per 100ml bottle. There's no word on whether they'll be made available in other regional stores at the moment, but I guess international shipping is always a thing.
