Gotta build 'em all.

LEGO and Nintendo are no strangers to each other, with properties like Animal Crossing, Super Mario and Legend of Zelda holding their places as LEGO themes. But the Pokemon franchise is a notable IP that has eluded the LEGO Group; that is, until now.

LEGO and The Pokemon Company have announced a multi-year partnership that will see new LEGO Pokemon sets for the first time. Though we know that sets will be released in 2026, the announcement itself was otherwise scarce on information. A Pikachu set to launch the new theme (as the teaser above might suggest) would certainly be unsurprising, but we're left to speculate on what other Pokémon LEGO might attempt to recreate.

And if you're having a bit of deja vu with this, Pokemon does indeed have partnerships with a couple other block-based toy lines, including Mattel's Mega Bloks Pokemon Toys and Nanoblock x Pokemon. Both toy-makers currently enjoy a healthy lineup of Pokemon sets, and their relationship with The Pokemon Company isn't neglected, with sets announced in 2024 for Mattel and just last month for Nanoblock.

It's unclear whether LEGO will have exclusive rights for new Pokemon-themed buildable toys, but it seems that Mattel's and Nanoblock's existing sets will see competition.
