Just in time (well, in certain timezones) for MAR10 Day, LEGO has announced a new addition to its Mario Kart lineup of sets. But this isn't just a normal set; designed for ages 18 and up, the LEGO Mario & Standard Kart (72037) set features a piece count of almost 2,000.

1,972 pieces to be exact, the highest in the LEGO Mario Kart lineup, and the second-highest in the entire LEGO Super Mario theme. LEGO says that the set is meant for both enthusiasts and newcomers to the brand, and features Mario riding in his red Standard Kart from Mario Kart 8, in a figure that measures 22cm tall, 32cm long and 19cm wide.

The set also features posable head and arms, as well as an included stand. This lets you make Mario look more dynamic, whether it's capturing him mid-drift or celebrating at the finish line. Take a look at some pics of the set:

This is the first-in-a-kind for the LEGO Mario Kart lineup, at least in terms of its piece count, detail and adjustability. LEGO intends for it to be a display piece once built, and a piece of Super Mario decor for franchise fans. Given how replicable this set's template is, it's easy to wonder if LEGO has any plans for similar sets with other Mario characters.

Availability and Pricing

The LEGO Mario & Standard Kart (72037) set is up for pre-order now on LEGO's website, and will ship on 15 May of this year. And as the set is aimed at adults, so too is the pricing; it'll cost S$249.90.
