Ubisoft has released more details on their next Rainbow Six game, a sci-fi multiplayer shooter called Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction. A new gameplay overview trailer dives deep into the game with more information on its constantly evolving map, roster of playable characters and massive arsenal of weaponry.

Ubisoft is promising a deep multiplayer experience with Rainbow Six Extraction, and it’s certainly delivering enough content to make that happen. Operators return from Rainbow Six Siege with over 90 weapons and gadgets on 12 ‘ever-evolving’ maps with 13 dynamic mission objectives. Strangely, this co-op game also comes with a competitive ranked mode - though who knows what form that will take. More post-launch free DLC is also coming.
In Rainbow Six Extraction, you’ll join a one-to-three-player REACT Team of Operators as they fight back against an alien invasion of creatures called Archaeans. You can play the game in either multiplayer or singleplayer modes. Teams will deploy across four regions in America including New York and San Francisco, which is funny considering this is meant to be a worldwide alien invasion. 12 maps will be available at launch, each one roughly three times the size of typical Rainbow Six Siege maps.
Players can also progress through a new levelling system for all 18 Rainbow Six Operators, allowing you to unlock new gear, weapons and abilities. You’ll also be able to unlock new containment zones, other Operators, customisation items, REACT tech, difficulty levels and more as you level up. There are 13 archetypes of Archaean variants to fight against, so don’t expect spray-and-pray to always be a viable strategy in combat. If you fail during a mission, your Operator will go Missing in Action and you’ll have to do a special mission to rescue them.
Rainbow Six Extraction will launch in January 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
