Earlier this week, gaming and esports agency Tier One Entertainment announced that it would be taking its first steps into the Japanese market. However, that's hardly the most interesting development. Apparently, as part of their investment deal struck between Japan-based internet firm KAYAC and Warner Music Company, not to mention the agency's own plans to continue discovering new influencer talents, Tier One's efforts in Japan will apparently be headlined by their brand-new idol quartet called "Project 4" as well.
Notably, the agency has only revealed one member out of the four so far - multi-talented model and cosplayer Harry "har_fie" Field. The identities of the other three members will supposedly be revealed in the months to come, and all that Tier One's CEO Tryke Gutierrez has let slip at the moment is that the idol quartet will be the agency's "greatest expression of cutting-edge style to date".
As for why they've decided to branch out into Japan, Gutierrez.shared that the move was motivated by the country's strong position in the field of gaming and multimedia innovation, even referring to it as "the mecca of geek culture". By that token, expanding into the Japanese market was all but natural at some point during Tier One's journey, and that he was excited at the numerous avenues it would open up for the agency.
Japan has always been my second home and is a country that's really close to my heart. As gaming, esports, anime and toys become more and more part of a gamer’s day-to-day life, I truly believe that Tier One has to set foot in Tokyo, the mecca of geek culture. This is an exciting time for us and we can't wait to see what we can do in Japan and the esports and gaming space there for the years to come.
Apart from the idol group, it would seem that Tier One will (naturally) be setting up a new branch office in Japan to facilitate its activities there. At the moment, the agency is already operating in many other Southeast Asian countries, including The Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam and now Japan. All that remains is to see what else they have cooking on the metaphorical stove, which of course includes the identities of the three remaining idols.
