After months of speculation, Sony has officially announced that its PlayStation VR2 headset will soon support PC gaming.
Starting 7 August, PlayStation VR2 players can access games on PC via an adapter. This move opens up Sony’s VR headset to Steam’s vast library of VR games, including titles such as Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, and War Thunder.
To get started, players will need to purchase a PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, have a compatible DisplayPort 1.4 cable, and a PC with the following minimum requirements.
Operating System | Windows 10 64-bit / Windows 11 64-bit |
Processor | Intel Core i5-7600 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later is required) |
RAM/ memory | 8 GB or more |
GPU/ graphics card | -NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture) -NVIDIA RTX series -AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later / AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later (for the best performance, it is recommended to use an NVIDIA GeForce TX 3060 or later or AMD Radeon 6600XT or later GPU) |
DisplayPort | DisplayPort 1.4 (either a standard DP or Mini DP output port) |
USB | Direct connection only |
Bluetooth | Bluetooth 4.0 or later |
Simply connect the PlayStation VR2 to your PC using the PS VR2 PC adapter and the DisplayPort 1.4 cable. Then download the PlayStation VR2 App and the SteamVR App from Steam. While connected via PC, some key PS VR2 features designed specifically for PS5 - such as HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, and adaptive triggers - will not be available on PC.
Through this move, Sony could essentially breathe new life into PS VR2 sales. The support for PC games on the PlayStation VR2 might position it to become a popular choice for PC gamers. In the meantime, check out our hands-on of the PlayStation VR2.
