2K Games and Firaxis Games have announced the next instalment in the venerable Civilization series, Sid Meier's Civilization VII, will be released on 11 February 2025.
Available on the PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch, Civ VII is setting up to be the most accessible game in the franchise yet. Interestingly, the game will also be available on older hardware like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One although its safe to say that apart from some visual and performance benefits on the newer consoles, the game’s core gameplay and features should remain consistent across all platforms.
Firaxis is teasing some big changes this time around. The introduction of Ages as a new game mechanic suggests a shift in how players will experience the passage of time in their empires. The ability to mix and match leaders and civilizations for the first time in the series’ history seems refreshing too, allowing players to create all-new strategies by mixing and matching gameplay bonuses.
But perhaps the most eye-catching update comes from the voice behind the narration. Gwendoline Christie, known for her roles as Ser Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones and Captain Phasma in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, will be guiding players through their epic quests. That’s quite an epic star power injected into the game. For the record, I totally dig her voice.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII will be available in three editions: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and a limited-time Founders Edition. An additional limited-availability Collector's Edition will be available, which includes physical collectibles themed around the game. A full breakdown is available on the Civilization website.
