If you don’t want spoilers for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, turn back now!
Those who have watched The Rise of Skywalker might have noticed that the movie’s opening crawl referenced The Emperor revealing himself to the galaxy. We never actually got to witness the moment – as cool as it would have been – but Fortnite players got to hear it.
For reference, this is how The Rise of Skywalker’s opening crawl starts:
The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late EMPEROR PALPATINE.
Fortnite kicked off its Star Wars event on December 14 with a live interview between Geoff Keighley and J.J. Abrams, a clip from the movie and a big action sequence. Soon after the action sequence, players heard The Emperor speak in-game.
Here's what The Emperor said:

It’s a little strange to put such an important event in the movie’s story in Fortnite of all places, but leave it out completely in the actual movie. It would’ve been nice to see the main cast reacting to The Emperor suddenly being alive again, at the very least.
Fortnite players also got to pick up a bunch of Star Wars character skins, like Zorii Bliss, an Imperial Stormtrooper outfit, and even Rey and Finn. The game has been going bigger and bigger with crossovers this year, bringing in heroes from Avengers: Endgame to Batman himself.
