It’s happening!

Riot Games are working on a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the League of Legends universe. The company’s vice president of intellectual property and entertainment, Greg Street hinted at this in a tweet, saying, “My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.”

In a later tweet however, he straight up confirmed that he was referring to an MMO:

This is probably the most casual way an exciting project like this could’ve been announced. The developer skipped over the traditional cinematic reveal trailer and just sent out a tweet. A strange way to announce a game fans have clamoured for for such a long time. Street stopped short of detailing the game, but we do know that it will be set in Runeterra, sharing a universe with League of Legends and its various spin-offs.

The concept of a World of Warcraft-like game set in the League of Legends universe sells itself, however. Riot Games have been doubling down on League of Legends spin-offs recently, such as a single player title called Ruined King. The company also has fighting and action-RPG League of Legends games in the works, so their output isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
