Earlier last weekend at Summer Game Fest, we got an official reveal for a new Resident Evil game. And while Capcom has been focused on the remakes in the past couple years, this is an original entry.

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth mainline title in the franchise, and it brings the series back to where it started: Raccoon City. This time, though, we get to see what it looks like after its destruction in Resident Evil 3.

But first, here's the trailer to set the scene:

The game features a brand new protagonist, though with a last name that may be familiar to some fans. Grace Ashcroft is an FBI agent who's been investigating a mysterious outbreak that's slowly unfolding. She's assigned to investigate another body at the Wrenwood Hotel, where her mother, Alyssa, was murdered years ago.

Alyssa Ashcroft made an appearance as a playable character in 2002's Resident Evil Outbreak, where she was a Raccoon City reporter. How Grace finds her way to the city is unclear, but we're treated to some pretty stunning shots of its ruins, including a Raccoon Police Department sign.

Indeed, Capcom seems mostly focused on promoting the immersiveness of the game, especially as it looks to be another survival horror. The series began returning to its horror roots with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard back in 2017.

We do know when Requiem will come out, and the good news is that it's not long. Resident Evil Requiem will be available on 27 February 2026, with a playable demo at Gamescom 2025. The game will arrive on PS5Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
