Sony’s next big PlayStation 5 game has finally received a release date.
Insomniac Games have announced that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will launch on June 11, 2021 exclusively on the PlayStation 5. This game will be the iconic duo’s first adventure together in five years, involving multiverse-hopping shenanigans.
Check out the pre-order trailer below:

The trailer doesn’t show off much new footage from the game, but creative director Marcus Smith penned a PlayStation Blog post to go into more detail. He describes the story as such:
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a brand-new full-length adventure. When the evil Dr. Nefarious uses a device that can access alternate dimensions to find a galaxy where he always wins, Ratchet and Clank are separated. As they try to re-unite, they will meet a new Lombax resistance fighter, explore new and familiar locales (but with new dimensional twists!), and wield a whole new arsenal of out of this world weapons.
He also mentions that the game is a great jumping-on point for newcomers to the franchise, but older fans will, “find deeper layers of connection to previous games.” Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was previously announced for a release within the PlayStation 5's ‘launch window’, but it looks like Insomniac has decided to delay the game by a couple months. Sony could also be waiting until more players get their hands on these highly in-demand consoles.

Rift Apart is now available for pre-order, and anyone who snags the game early will be able to pick up the Carbonox armour from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. They’ll also unlock the Pixelizer shotgun earlier in the game. The game’s standard edition will go for US$69.99, while the deluxe edition will cost US$79.99. The deluxe edition comes with bonus in-game goodies, such as extra Raritanium (to upgrade weapons), five armour sets and a Photo Mode sticker pack. You’ll also get a digital art book and soundtrack.
Insomniac Games still refuses to reveal the identity of the mysterious female Lombax character revealed in an earlier trailer, but their new blog post hints that it has something to do with feeling ‘rosy’. She's going to be named Rose or Roz, mark my words. PlayStation Studios have a few tantalising PS5-exclusives planned for this year, including the likes of Horizon Forbidden West and a God of War sequel. Rift Apart seems the furthest along out of this bunch however, so one has to wonder: When are we going to see those other games in action?
