Pokemon Go Fest will return in July as a fully online event
Last year's event went online due to the pandemic, and it looks like Niantic have their hands tied again this year.

Niantic have announced that Pokemon Go Fest will return in July this year, and just like 2020’s iteration of the event, it will take place fully online over the course of two days. Previously, the event was only held in certain parts of the world - but the ongoing pandemic forced Niantic to switch things up last year.
Pokemon Go Fest 2020 will take place from July 17 to July 18, but Niantic are playing it coy on what the event will actually entail. They clearly have big plans however, noting in a blog post that 2021 marks Pokemon Go’s five-year anniversary and the Pokemon franchise’s 25th anniversary.
Previous Pokemon Go Fest events introduced paid tickets that let players participate in a Special Research project, which would unlock special Pokemon like Victini, Celebi and Jirachi. The ticket system will likely return, alongside a bunch of other bonuses for players who don’t want to shell out US$14.99 for some ‘mons.
Given that Niantic cheekily asks players to, “stay tuned for more details,” we’re probably going to see a music-themed Pokemon like Meloetta get introduced in this year’s event. Last year’s Pokemon Go Fest was a massive success for Niantic, with the company confirming that, “a record number of millions of trainers,” participated to catch nearly a billion Pokemon in total. Hopefully, they have even bigger plans for players this year.
