Overwatch 2 will finally be available to play on the most widely used video game distribution platform. The 5v5 hero shooter is coming to Steam on August 10 — a welcome milestone for players who have been waiting for this since Overwatch debuted back in 2016.

The move is all about meeting players where they are, said Blizzard, and making their games as easy as possible to access and play. In fact, Overwatch 2 is just the first of many Blizzard titles that will be making their way to Steam.

“It’s our goal at Blizzard to listen to players and try to exceed their expectations in everything we do,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. “While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.”

Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play first-person shooter that launched as the sequel to the 2016 game. An upcoming update, dubbed Overwatch 2: Invasion, will be the largest content drop in the game's 7-year history, comprising the first-ever set of PvE Story Missions, a new core PvP game mode with two new maps, and a new hero.

It is set to arrive on August 10, the same date as its Steam release. Players on Steam will still need to connect Overwatch 2 to their Battle.net account, which enables cross-platform play and more. Players using Steam will have access to features of the platform while playing Overwatch 2, such as Steam achievements, their Steam friends list, and the ability to invite them to play in-game.
