Never say never; EA's DICE studio starting to dabble in VR

Good news for those who want to play EA's games in VR. Despite reports to the contrary, it seems like EA's decided to throw their hat into the VR ring earlier than expected!

Just last month, we heard Blake Jorgensen, EA's CFO, say that the company will take a wait and see approach when it comes to VR.

Well, it seems as if that waiting period was two or three weeks.

DICE, makers of the Battlefield games and the new Star Wars Battlefront, has recently just put up ads looking for new candidates to fill out positions in its new VR team. Openings at DICE Stockholm, have revealed that the developer is looking for a VR Creative Director, Artist and a couple of Engineers.

Judging from the positions they want filled, DICE seems to be pretty serious on starting a small, but highly experienced VR crew to work on creating VR experiences with their Frostbite engine, the latest iteration of which can be seen in the new Star Wars Battlefront.

Due to the small team, it's easy to surmise that DICE is probably just dipping its toes into the VR water as there's no way the amount of people they're aiming to hire will be able to make a AAA VR experience on their own.

What is unknown at the moment is what headset the team is looking at.

With the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the Playstation VR all coming in Q1 2016, it seems like DICE's a bit late to the party to make a game for launch of any of the headsets mentioned. Still, it's great to see that EA is at least open to letting its studios tinker with VR.

We really hope EA's Visceral Gamess gets a go too, we'd love to play a VR Dead Space.
