Last month, MyRepublic launched a rather unique product within Singapore's telco space: A game titled Pocket Rocket Adventures. Styled as a space shooter, the game sees you taking control of a little rocket ship blasting enemies and collecting in-game rewards.
But this game didn't come out of nowhere. Pocket Rocket Adventures is part of MyRepublic's efforts to differentiate itself from the rest of Singapore's telcos in what it calls its 'Geeks Use Us' campaign. The telco says that the specific idea of gamifying customer experience comes from its roots in the gaming community.

As for how the game plays, it's split up into two gameplay modes. 'Manual Pilot' is the more engaging of the two, as it sees you flying around a set stage and eliminating enemies while garnering XP for power-ups, and defeating a boss at the end.
Idle Mode, meanwhile, is set up similar to other idle games. You can leave the app open and let your rocket ship automatically start attacking enemies as they appear. The stage for Idle Mode is a bit different, however, as it's a vertically scrolling environment rather than the more expansive one that appears in Manual Pilot. It also requires some amount of engagement, as you have finite health; you'll need to power up your ship with upgrades that can be found in the Hangar. You can also equip Companions and upgrade your ship's Core, both of which will give you stat buffs.
Based on some quick gameplay, it does seem like these upgrades are necessary when you start off Idle Mode, because the enemies start piling up real fast.
Pocket Rocket Adventures released early in April. While the game isn't exactly new now, it seems like MyRepublic is planning to stick with it, as the game has a seasonal ladder system. Speaking of which, this is where you can get something tangible out of the game,as MyRepublic aims to reward active players (including those in the top 25 at the end of the season) prizes such as Garmin smartwatches, Nintendo Switches, and gaming peripherals, among others.
Only MyRepublic customers can get these prizes (you can link your MyRepublic account in the app), but anyone can play, including non-subscribers. For the telco, then, it seems like the focus is on the relationship with the customer, as much as it is about making an engaging game. Pocket Rocket Adventures is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store if you want to give it a try.
