The Minecraft live-action movie teaser trailer is here

The first Minecraft Movie trailer has finally been released, and it's giving mixed vibes. The film, a live-action adaptation of the popular sandbox, features a mix of actual humans and slightly realistic CG takes on Minecraft.

Notable members of the cast include Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jack Black as Steve. Check out the teaser trailer below, set to the tune of The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour.

The synopsis of the movie reads as follows: Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival!  Four misfits—Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers) and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.  To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black).  Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world. 

Overall, the movie appears to be a silly, family-friendly adventure with plenty of jokes, large-scale battles, and of course, references to the game.  It's directed by Jared Hess (Napolean Dynamite) and a team consisting of Enrique Chediak, Grant Major, James Thomas, Dan Lemmon, and Amanda Neala. 

The Minecraft Movie is expected to be released internationally on 2 April 2025 and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide.
