Marvel fans and gamers rejoice. During Epic’s State of Unreal keynote, viewers were treated to a first look at 1943: Rise of Hydra, a new game by Skydance Media and Marvel Games. The trailer teases the story surrounding Captain America, Black Panther, the Wakandan spy Nanali, and the Howling Commandos' soldier Gabriel Jones, and is set in the World War II era.
Slated for release sometime during 2025, the team at Skydance Media used Unreal Engine 5.4 to obtain a high level of detail of the game's characters and environments. From Black Panther's eye bags to the small rubble created when he lands on the roof, there are plenty of minute details that contribute to making the scenes look hyper-realistic.

According to Marvel, the game will have four heroes playable at different points of the game and will see the central characters band together to form an alliance against their common enemy. While story details are still under wraps, at the helm of this narrative-driven game is Amy Hennig, known for her works on Uncharted and as a director at Naughty Dog. With her at the helm, the game is shaping up to have rich, cinematic narratives coupled with detailed graphics with the use of the new Unreal Engine 5.4.
What's impressive, from a technical standpoint, is that Hennig mentioned during the keynote that the sequences from the trailer were pulled right from the game running in real-time on Unreal Engine 5.4. She said:
This isn't some custom demo that we made just for this show. That's our game. All the sequences you just saw in that trailer are all pulled right out of our game, running real-time and on Unreal Engine 5. No smoke and mirrors.
While a concrete 2025 release date has not been set yet, based on the trailer, the game looks amazing and could be lots of fun for Marvel fans and gamers.
