League of Legends will reportedly have in-game ads for official matches

Minions have spawned, and so have the ad banners.

Brace yourselves, Summoners. A new entity has, or will be making its way onto Summoner’s Rift soon.

Yes, after sleeping unnoticed for...a very long period of time, that thing we know as in-game ad banners will rise and make its presence known. In official League of Legends matches, that is.

Indeed, according to a statement by Riot Games, sponsored banners will begin to appear in official tournament matches starting with the upcoming LCS Summer Split, which they will host entirely online starting from June 11. For now, we aren’t sure of the full list of sponsors who are on board with this, although Mastercard is definitely one of them, given this recent tweet depicting an in-game Mastercard banner.

We're very excited to be entering Summoner's Rift
