Japanese game company Drecom is working on a new Wizardry title
There's still no news on when the game is expected to release, though.

From The Legend of Zelda and The Witcher, to Final Fantasy and even Dragon Quest, role-playing games, or RPGs for short have been one of gaming's most prominent genres for as long as we can remember. But where (and when) did this now-commonplace genre first appear?
In a nutshell, we owe it all to a humble 1981 game from Sir-Tech Software called Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. Widely credited as the spiritual (and conceptual) progenitor of many RPG franchises, the Wizardry series spans a total of eight games right now, and its ninth is currently being worked on by Japanese mobile game development company Drecom.
Earlier today, the company, which has previously churned out games such as Disgaea RPG and Digimon ReArise announced that it had just acquired the copyrights and trademarks to the Wizardry intellectual property for both domestic and foreign use. On top of that, it also said that it would be working on the next instalment in the series, although an estimated release date has not been provided.
Now this is certainly intriguing, especially if you're a fan of old-school stuff like this - it's interesting to think how Drecom might adapt the age-old party-questing formula made popular by the original into a modern title. Given the company's past works, it's highly likely that "Wizardry 9" will be a mobile game, although cross-platform play is still a feature they might explore.
Guess we'll just have to wait for more news. In the meantime, why not check out how these other "grand-daddies" have shaped our modern gaming experience?
