One of the more interesting gaming notebooks to be announced at CES 2024 is HP's new Transcend 14, which HP says is the world's lightest 14-inch gaming notebook.
It weighs just 1.65kg, which makes it a smidge lighter than Razer's Blade 14 – its keenest competitor in this segment. It's also just 18mm thick at its chunkiest point.
Despite its relatively low weight and compact dimensions, the Transcend 14 has very high-end specs. If you go all out, you can equip it with a Core Ultra 9 185H processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 32GB of memory, and 2TB of PCIe 4.0 SSD storage.

The 14-inch display is suitably high-end too. It has an OLED panel with 2880 x 1800 pixels resolution, a low 0.2ms response time, and a fast 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space.
The keyboard is quite interesting too, especially if you love RGB lighting. Not only does it have RGB backlighting, but it also has pudding-style translucent key caps to accentuate its backlight.
And because HP acquired HyperX back in 2021, the Transcend 14 features audio tuned by HyperX and it can pair automatically with select HyperX accessories like the HyperX Cloud III wireless headset.

Connectivity is good. It's one of the first notebooks we've seen to support Wi-Fi 7, which has only recently been made official. As for ports, it has two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A ports, and a full-size HDMI 2.1 port. That's impressive for a notebook this thin.
On paper, this looks like a very compelling option for any gamer who's looking for a portable and relatively powerful gaming notebook. It has high-end specs, an equally high-end display, and also supports the newest Wi-Fi 7 standard. Hopefully, HP will be able to keep its price down when it arrives on our shores.
