GTA 5 is still coming out on new consoles eight years later.

Rockstar Games showed off a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) and GTA Online’s next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions - but it came with a little bit of bad news. The game will now launch on next-gen consoles in March 2022 instead of its previously-announced November 2021 release date.

These ‘expanded and enhanced’ versions of Rockstar’s best-selling videogame will leverage the power of next-gen consoles for, “a range of technical improvements, visual upgrades and performance enhancements.” Those improvements include seamless character-switching in the open-world, finally allowing you to switch between Trevor, Michael and Franklin without enduring long loading times.

Frustratingly, the trailer was lacking in information on the rest of these ‘enhancements’ and ‘expansions’. Are we getting new story missions? Different game modes? We just don’t know right now, and Rockstar doesn’t seem ready to give that information away. Says the studio, “We look forward to sharing more details about these expanded and enhanced versions soon, including the new standalone version of GTA Online also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March.”

Currently, PlayStation Plus subscribers get bonuses such as $1,000,000 in GTA cash every month for GTA Online - until the next-gen editions launch in March next year. You can find these bonuses on the PlayStation Store. GTA Online will also be available for PlayStation 5 owners to claim for free after its March 2022 launch, for three months. We're also reportedly getting classic GTA remasters sometime soon.
