Announced earlier this year, Google's cloud gaming platform, Stadia, has remained somewhat of an enigma. Despite a Reddit AMA with Andrey Doronichev, Product Director for Stadia, details are scant.
Thankfully, Google will be holding a new Stadia Connect event on 19 August (20 August, 1 AM SGT) to, hopefully, provide more answers. According to the YouTube description for the live-stream, the event will primarily be talking about new games and partners of Stadia.
Whilst the Stadia won’t be made available to Asia at launch, it will come with two tiers. Stadia Base, which is free but requires owners to purchase a game from Stadia, and The Stadia Pro, which will be available as a monthly US$9.99 (S$14) subscription. The latter will come with a free game once a month.
For those interested, Stadia still requires proprietary hardware from Google despite it being a cloud-based service. A Stadia controller and Chromecast Ultra are required to use the service on a TV. The Google Pixel 3 phones will also have access to the Stadia game streaming services on launch. There are plans to further expand the support to other Android phones in the future according to the AMA.
Below is a list of some games that will be on the Stadia (via GameAxis)
