Bad news Football Manager fans. SEGA Corporation and Sports Interactive have officially cancelled this year’s instalment of Football Manager (FM25). This news comes after FM25 had already experienced two earlier delays, with the first pushback and second pushback occurring in September and October last year.

Despite efforts from both companies to refine the game, the development teams ultimately concluded that FM25 could not meet the high standards that fans expect. According to the official statement from both companies:

We currently haven’t achieved what we set out to do in enough areas of the game, despite the phenomenal efforts of our team... Whilst many areas of the game have hit our targets, the overarching player experience and interface is not where we need it to be.

One of the most exciting aspects surrounding FM25 was the fact that it was able to score a licensing deal with the Premier League. The four-year agreement, which would have brought official player names, logos, kits, and photos to the game, would have set FM25 apart from its current competitors like EA Sports’ EAFC 25. However, with FM25’s cancellation, football fans will not have to wait at least another year to see the benefits of this deal come to fruition.

While FM25 has been cancelled, fans of the series will still be able to access and play last year's version of Football Manager with the developing team currently in discussions with various platform partners and licensors to extend FM24 agreements beyond March.

For those who have pre-ordered FM25, refunds will be processed automatically. For more information regarding refunds, you can check out the FM25 FAQ here. For now, we’ll have to make do with FM24 though the development teams have stated that they are fully focused on creating the next Football Manager game.
