First batch of Steam Machines pre-orders are sold out
Valve's plan to dominate the living room is off to a great start as the company reports the first batch of Steam Machines pre-orders are completely filled.
The Alienware Steam Machine (pictured) is just one of the many different machines.
As we initially reported, customers were finally able to pre-order Steam Machines, the Steam Link and the Steam Controller earlier in the month, with a limited time promotion that promised buyers who pre-order a chance to get the hardware about a month early. We had no idea that the response would be so overwhelming that Valve would be able to say that they've sold all of their pre-orders allocated for early adopters.
While Valve's Steam Machine page are still taking pre-orders, these are for the second batch of machines, which will launch on the Steam Machine's official release date, on November 10th. The release will also see the Steam Link and Steam Controller being available for purchase as well.
One thing to note though, good sales for the initial batch of pre-orders don't mean much. As we mentioned, the initial units were all expected to be snapped up by early adopters and since Valve hasn't made it known exactly how many units were up for pre-order, it's hard to really say how successful the campaign was. The real test of the Steam Machines' popularity will be when it launches on November 10.
