Despite the murmurs of disappointment regarding Spider-Man being a PS4-exclusive character, developer Crystal Dynamic's upcoming title Marvel's Avengers is still shaping up to be one of the best superhero games we've seen to date. And it's about to get even better, considering the new boatload of supposedly playable characters that dataminers have just unearthed.

According to this post on Reddit, there are 15 different characters found with the prefix "UnlockPlayableCharacter" within the game's code at this point in time, and they range from more commonly known superheroes like Doctor Strange to slightly more obscure Marvel characters like She-Hulk and Kate Bishop. Of course, this comes on top of a previous reveal showing off Hawkeye as the first DLC character, and more is always merrier in a superhero title.

  • Captain Marvel
  • Doctor Strange
  • Black Panther
  • Kate Bishop
  • She-Hulk
  • Ant-Man
  • The Wasp
  • Vision
  • Falcon
  • Mar-Vell
  • Mockingbird
  • Quake
  • Winter Soldier
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Peter Parker
  • War Machine
  • Hulkbuster

Don't worry; we didn't fail math in college - the last two entries are probably just reskins of existing characters (aka Iron Man) that we'll unlock as we progress through the game. What is rather weird, though is how Spider-Man is labelled as "Peter Parker" rather than his superhero moniker. Granted, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference gameplay-wise, but interestingly enough, it does imply that Crystal Dynamic might add in "Miles Morales" or one of the other Spider-Men as reskins in future.

Anyway, if you've pre-ordered the game but haven't taken the beta for a spin, the last session goes live from August 21-23 on all compatible platforms. If you miss that one, then you'll just have to wait till the game releases on September 4 to play it, which isn't that far away either. From our end, Marvel's Avengers really seems like the superhero game to have in 2020, and our beta impressions piece says as much - check that out here!
