For many Real-Time Strategy (RTS) lovers, the Command & Conquer series was (and probably still is) among the best that the genre has to offer. And in 2020, this grand-daddy of gaming is celebrating its 25th Anniversary - honestly, I find it quite hard to believe it's been around for two and a half decades now.

In view of this milestone, the folks at Electronic Arts have joined forces with some members of the original Westwood Studios team at Petroglyph to create the Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection, which is available on both Origin and Steam for US$19.99 (~S$27.80). Origin Access Premier members will receive it for free if they have an active subscription, while Basic members can purchase the game at 10% off.

Comprised of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert and all three of their DLC packs - Covert Ops, Counterstrike and The Aftermath, players can re-experience this old but gold series with stunning 4K graphics, modern multiplayer and even a remastered soundtrack. Oh yes, don't forget to check out this short welcome-back video from the iconic bald guy himself, Kane.

Of course, the games don't just look and sound better - gameplay has been improved too based on feedback the developers received from the active Community Council. UI improvements, updated controls, a Map Editor, and even Elo-based multiplayer matchmaking - there are tons of new additions to make this "love letter", as EA Lead Producer Jim Vessella calls it, a nostalgic yet exciting one.

Personally, I didn't get to play the original C&C when it dropped - my first entry into the series was actually Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. I loved the living daylights out of that game when I was younger, and being the starry-eyed little kid, I recall the alien Scrin faction being my favourite. I mean, spawning a black hole in the middle of your opponent's base every 5 minutes or so is always entertaining, and that doesn't change whether you're twelve or twenty-seven.

Still, I guess playing the original has always been an item on my bucket list, and there's literally no time like the present. We're working hard on it right now -  so stay tuned for the review!
