Chucklefish, an independent game studio who originally of ConcernedApe's Stardew Valley, is launching their debut title, Starbound, on Xbox Game Pass. This comes almost a decade after its original launch, and five years since its last major update for PC.
Starbound, a 2D adventure game originally released in 2016, sees you as as a protagonist fleeing your home after an alien attack, and has you gathering resources on another planet in order to repair your damaged ship. Although there is a story campaign that has you battling the alien forces that attacked your home, the game also allows you to push that goal aside in order to colonise other alien planets.

In line with the game's sci-fi setting, one of Starbound's features is its procedurally generated world, which similar to something like Terraria, allows players to explore planets and settings with different climates and appearances. The game also features an extensive crafting system with over 2,000 objects, with which you can craft structures, armour and weapons, among other things.
The game also features a multiplayer system with an online drop-in/drop-out co-op. You should note, however, that while Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series consoles support up to four players, the Xbox One S can only handle up to two playes in a party.
The game saw a standard Xbox release earlier in October last year, launching on Xbox One, One X and One S, as well as the Xbox Series X | S consoles for US$14.99. It's also worth noting that Starbound is also available on PC Game Pass; its launch on Xbox Game Pass means its availability with Microsoft's services is quite wide-ranging. It's also available on PC and macOS via Steam, as well as Linux, with the only platform missing being PlayStation.
Starbound's release on Xbox Game Pass comes as part of a list of games being made available on the subscription service this month, with other games including Eternal Strands and Sniper Elite: Resistance launching as day one releases later in January.
