Monster Hunter fan who can’t wait till February next year? You're in luck. Following the release of a promotional video showcasing the new Monster Hunter Wilds title, Capcom has confirmed an open beta test for the fantasy-themed game.

The catch? The beta is only open for a limited time: 1 November (11:00am SGT) to 4th November (10:59am SGT). It’s available to all PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam users, though if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, the beta period will be shifted earlier, 11:00am on 29th October to 10:59am 31st October. You might also wanna prep some space on your drive; this beta alone will take up 29GB of your storage.

Another caveat is that you’ll only be able to access a limited portion of the game, though what the beta is offering is definitely not lacking in content.

In particular, you’ll be able to play the beginning of the Monster Hunter Wilds story, including the tutorial, as well as a hunt for the Chatacabra monster. Adding to that, you’ll also be able to play the Doshaguma Hunt Quest, where you’ll be hunting the Alpha Doshaguma, a new monster introduced in Wilds.

Multiplayer is also available for both of these quests by sending out an SOS Flare in-game, if you want a taste of how your future hours-long Wilds sessions with your friends is going to feel like. If you’re short on a fourth hunter, you’ll also be able to try out Wilds’ new NPC hunters to supplement your party. Through Alma, your handler in the game, you’ll be able to tweak your multiplayer settings.

It’s important to note, however, that the story progress you get from the above two quests will not transfer over the full game.

Of course, before starting these quests, you’ll be able to create and customise your character. Unlike the progress from the story quests, this character data will be transferable to the full game upon release, which should save you the inevitable few hours spent creating your character come February next year. You’ll also be able to create your ideal Palico in the beta.

Finally, beta testers will also get a couple special gifts in the game, including a Palico Teddy pendant and an Item Pack that can be used to decorate your equipment when the full game comes out. Both rewards will be available to download upon the full release of Wilds.

Again, the open beta will be available from 1st November to 4th November, unless you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber. The full Monster Hunter Wilds game is set to release on 28 February, 2025.

Until then, and until the beta comes out, you can check out the Monster Hunter Wilds broadcast here, which showcased a few new Monsters and areas to look forward to in the full game:
