Square Enix has released a free demo for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, giving players not only on Xbox for PC with Xbox Play Anywhere, Xbox Series X|S but also on Nintendo Switch 2 – giving gamers a chance to revisit Midgar ahead of the game’s full launch on these platforms on 22 January 2026.

The demo covers the opening section of the game and, importantly, progress carries over to the full release. That alone makes it worth a download if you’re even mildly curious, since you won’t have to start again from scratch if you decide to buy the game. For Xbox players, the release also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning a single purchase works across console and PC.

Intergrade is the expanded version of 2020’s Final Fantasy VII Remake (read our review here), bundling visual upgrades and performance tweaks alongside the Intermission episode starring Yuffie. While PlayStation 5 and PC players have had access to this version for some time via Steam and the Epic Games Store, this marks the first time the Intergrade edition is playable on Nintendo and Xbox platforms.

For players on Nintendo Switch 2, the demo can be downloaded via the Nintendo eShop using the following store-specific redemption codes provided by Square Enix. Otherwise, it’s available directly on Xbox storefronts.
