Sony recently held a State of Play to coincide with Tokyo Game Show, an event which kicked off today and will be lasting until Sunday (28 September). One of the highlights from that State of Play was Marvel’s Wolverine, a new title developed by Marvel’s Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games

If this announcement rings a bell, that’s because it’s been stewing for as long as four years. The first time we heard anything about a Wolverine game was in 2021, when Insomiac revealed its existence alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Four years on, we now have an idea of what the gameplay will be like, as well as a release window.

It’s a touch more violent than Spider-Man, that’s for sure. Plot details are vague for now, but Insomniac calls this game a “global thriller”, which will see Logan (played by Liam McIntyre) travelling around the world, including Canada, Tokyo, and Madripoor, a fictional nation resembling maritime Southeast Asian islands, including Singapore.

What Logan is chasing is unknown, other than that he’s chasing “secrets of a dark past.” We do know that the Reavers, an anti X-Men group with a particular vendetta against Wolverine, will appear as an enemy faction. Other familiar faces like Mystique and Omega Red appear in the trailer, too.

As for the platform and release window, Marvel’s Wolverine will launch exclusively for the PS5 in Fall 2026.
