Razer has unveiled the improvements to its esports headset series with the launch of the BlackShark V3 lineup. Designed for use across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, the series comprises three models, which include the flagship BlackShark V3 Pro, the mid-range BlackShark V3, and the entry-level BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed.
The BlackShark V3 Pro, the flagship model in the lineup, introduces several firsts for the series. It is the first BlackShark headset to feature Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and is equipped with Razer HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2, which claims to deliver ultra-low latency audio of just 10 milliseconds. To put that into perspective, the average human threshold for perceiving audio latency is around 10 to 15 milliseconds, meaning users should experience little to no noticeable delay between on-screen action and the corresponding audio.
It comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable as well as a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable for wired listening.
Regarding its ANC capabilities, the BlackShark V3 Pro utilises a four-microphone system to detect and suppress a wide range of background noise. This should help to minimise common distractions like keyboard clicks or nearby construction noise. A dedicated button on the right side of the headset allows users to toggle between ANC On, Ambient mode, and ANC Off, with each mode offering different levels of environmental awareness.
Besides better wireless performance, the BlackShark V3 Pro also features Razer’s new TriForce Bio-Cellulose 50mm drivers. According to Razer, the shift from Titanium to bio-cellulose diaphragms allows for cleaner and more natural sound reproduction while reducing harmonic distortion. The drivers also include a 75% increase in magnet strength, which is intended to improve both spatial and directional accuracy. In essence, the upgrade should help players to pick up critical in-game cues like footsteps and reloads more accurately.
Other upgrades to the BlackShark V3 Pro include a new detachable 12mm HyperClear Full Band microphone that supports a sample rate of up to 48kHz. Unlike the cardioid mic of the previous BlackShark V2 Pro’s (read our review here), the V3 Pro now uses a unidirectional pickup pattern, which should help with voice isolation.
Connectivity-wise, the headset offers four modes of connectivity. 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed Wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-A, and 3.5mm. It also supports simultaneous dual-audio streaming via HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth, enabling users to game while managing calls or media from a second device without needing to switch inputs.
For those who want audio customisation, Razer Synapse 4 enables up to nine onboard EQ profiles, including 12 pro-tuned presets developed with pro FPS players to enhance gameplay cues like footsteps and reloads. There is also support for THX Spatial Audio 7.1.4 on PC, as well as Tempest 3D Audio on PlayStation and Windows Sonic on Xbox.
Finally, battery life is rated at up to 70 hours on PC (via a 2.4GHz connection) and 48 hours on console. Combined with the dual-layered FlowKnit memory foam cushions, it should make for a comfortable headset during long gaming sessions.
The rest of the BlackShark V3 lineup
The BlackShark V3 and V3 Pro is available in Black or White.
Two other models accompany the flagship headset. The BlackShark V3 includes TriForce Titanium 50 mm Drivers Gen-2, THX Spatial Audio, and a HyperClear Superwide Band Mic. It supports HyperSpeed Wireless, Bluetooth, USB, and up to nine onboard EQ profiles. The entry-level BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed comes with TriForce 50 mm Drivers Gen-2, 7.1 Surround Sound, and a HyperClear Cardioid Mic, with support for the same connectivity options.
In other words, the key differences between the headsets are the availablility of ANC, the type of microphone, and virtual surround sound support.
