September 2019's Save the Date: Borderlands 3, Gears 5, FIFA 20 and more!
Check out all the games coming out this month!
Welcome back to our monthly Save the Date segment! Here, we dig into all the games coming out this month, plus a couple you might want to keep an eye on. September has a little something for everyone, so let’s dive in!
Blasphemous (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Switch) - September 10, 2019

This one is a bit out there, but the absolutely seamless mix of Bloodborne and Castlevania vibes on display here earns it a spot on this list. Look at that sprite work! Those bosses! The environments! All hail Blasphemous.
Gears 5 (PC, Xbox One) - September 10, 2019

This game is already out for Xbox Game Pass members and those who pre-ordered the game’s Ultimate Edition, but the rest of us have to wait until September 10. Having played this game already, I can tell you that Gears 5 has an absolutely wild campaign mode that’s worth playing through, with huge action setpieces and really cool bosses to fight. It also has a few multiplayer modes - in case the campaign’s not enough for you!
Greedfall (PC, PS4 Xbox One) - September 10, 2019

Greedfall has been raising a lot of eyebrows lately. This action RPG is set somewhat loosely in the 17th century... if we also had elves and other fantasy creatures back then. People are calling it a throwback to when Bioware made good RPGs, and if that’s not a good enough selling point, I don’t know what is!
Borderlands 3 (PC, PS4 Xbox One) - September 13, 2019

Vault hunters, your time has come! The highly anticipated sequel to Borderlands 2 is finally here, featuring all new worlds, characters and over ‘1 billion guns’. You can play as one of four different unique vault hunters and take on the antagonistic Calypso Twins with a bunch of friends in both online and local co-op! For more info, check out our coverage for the game here.
Daemon X Machina (Switch) - September 13, 2019

Can’t have too many mech games! In this game, a group of pilots with special abilities command mechs and act as humanity’s protectors against the threat of war with the Arms of Immortals. It’s a bit of a mouthful, but you can actually try out a demo for the game on the Switch eShop right now - why not give it a shot?
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep DLC (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia) - September 17, 2019

This is the fourth expansion for Bungie’s wildly popular first-person shooter. This is actually Bungie’s first expansion for the game since splitting up with Activision, so it’ll be interesting to see what changes the studio is going to implement with this particular release. This story will take Guardians all the way to the moon, and introduce a whole host of new content to the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Switch) - September 20, 2019

Personally, this is my most hyped up game of the month. I mean, look at how adorable Link is! This game is a remake of one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the Zelda franchise, tuning up those Gameboy graphics for some really dazzling visuals by today’s standards. Its distinctive art style is sure to win people over - no matter if it’s their first Zelda game or not.
Untitled Goose Game (PC, Switch) - September 20, 2019

Why is a goose game on this list, you ask? Where’s the title, you ask? I don’t have the answers you seek, but who doesn’t want to play as a goose pestering human beings everywhere? This title has weirdly already achieved cult status, seeing as how it’s been delayed so many times no one ever thought it’d see the light of day. But now, finally, we have a release date - and it’s this month!
The Surge 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One) - September 24, 2019

The first Surge game was described as a sci-fi Dark Souls. This game seems to follow the same style of gameplay, with a couple of improvements. You get a whole bunch of weapon variety and a pretty extensive loot system, plus a couple of large-scale bosses thrown in to make things interesting. If you’re a Fromsoftware fan and need to scratch that itch sometime soon, this might be the game for you!
Code Vein (PC, PS4, Xbox One) - September 27, 2019.

Here’s another game inspired by the Dark Souls series: Code Vein. This is an action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic open world, developed by Bandai Namco. It’s got some spooky vampire themes and the game’s opening is done by animation studio Ufotable, who also worked on animated sequences for the Tales of game series.
FIFA 20 (PC, PS4, Xbox One) - September 27, 2019

Ah, it’s the football game. This time around, FIFA’s getting intimate with its new Volta Football mode. You can play games on a more grounded street level here, with more of an emphasis on culture and player customisation. Of course, you can always go big with FIFA’s normal football modes too - you can’t go wrong either way!

This month in particular is packed with a pretty diverse array of video games. If you’re into shooters, pick up Borderlands 3. Football games? FIFA. Anime? Code Vein. Attacking people as a goose? Untitled Goose Game, baby!
