Razer Firefly V2 Pro gaming mousepad hands-on: No such thing as too much RGB
The Razer Firefly V2 Pro is a great addition if you’re looking to add some RGB bling to your gaming setup.
Having more RGB on your desk isn't silly at all.
Mousepads often get overlooked and are the least prioritised accessory sitting on your table, but yet they are essential for optimal mouse performance. It’s also not common for us to write about them but Razer’s newest mousepad – the Firefly V2 Pro – is something else. The Firefly V2 Pro is a hard, multi-layered mousepad, and on the surface looks just like any other ordinary mousepad. Until you powered it up.
The Firefly V2 Pro’s standout feature is the edge-to-edge LED backlighting, boasting 15 RGB LED zones that light up the entire surface. This mousepad is great to game and work on and works well with all mice. The RGB might be a tad too much for some, but I absolutely love it as it makes my otherwise monotonous black table surface dull and boring.
Customisation is a key feature here, although you’ll need to install Razer’s Chroma software. Doing so will allow you to tailor the lighting on the Firefly V2 Pro to your liking, and you can even sync with your gameplay for dynamic effects. Beyond the mousepad’s aesthetics though, Razer has engineered the Firefly V2 Pro for serious gamers.
The USB-A port at the back is useful for your wireless mouse dongle.
Let’s talk about the build. The Firefly V2 Pro is constructed with three layers, with the rubber base acting as an anti-slip layer to keep the pad in place during intense gaming matches. The middle layer contains the RGB LED backlighting, and the top layer is a low-friction, micro-textured hard surface with a frosted finish, and works very well with my Logitech G502 X gaming mouse. But if you prefer a softer, fabric-like, surface, then the Firefly V2 Pro could be a deal-breaker – and you could consider the Razer Goliathus Chroma instead. The latter’s RGB isn’t as glorious as the Firefly V2 Pro’s though.
For connectivity, the mousepad uses a detachable USB-C cable to hook up to your PC. Beyond the obvious reason to power up the LED backlighting, it’s also the only way to customise the lighting via Razer Chroma. If your wireless mouse (with USB-C) requires some battery juice topping up, the cable can be used to charge it too. Additionally, there's a USB-A 2.0 port at the back of the Firefly V2 Pro, for your mouse’s wireless dongle, ensuring you don’t sacrifice a USB port for the mousepad’s features.
The Firefly V2 Pro is also available in white.
The Razer Firefly V2 Pro is a great addition if you’re looking to add some RGB bling to your gaming setup, and is also a solid match for high-end gaming mice to give you that extra edge and comfort in your games.
Razer Firefly V2 Pro pricing and availability
It is now available at Razer.com for S$159 and comes in black colour (as is the unit that Razer sent to me) as well as in white – which could be a great choice to match with an all-white desk setup.
It's also available at Amazon and Lazada.
