There hasn’t been a better time to just stay inside and play some videogames. Fortunately, that’s going to be a pretty easy task in June - a month in which two of the biggest games of the year are set to drop. Whether you’re into tactical multiplayer shooters or navigating a post-apocalyptic story with jaw-dropping visuals - this is going to be a memorable month in gaming either way.
Valorant (PC) - June 2

Riot Games’ new team-based tactical first-person shooter has been making waves recently, mostly due to a clever marketing strategy. The company gave out early access keys to Valorant's beta via Twitch streams, which boosted its popularity - and it’s no wonder why, considering how much mainstream appeal it oozes.
Remember how Apex Legends made its bones by throwing Overwatch-like superheroes into the battle royale genre? Valorant melds ability-based gameplay with the slower, more deliberate pace of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s matches. It’s not exactly the same, of course. This game presents an interesting gameplay loop to watch unfold - and it could be the next big thing in the esports scene. Check out our impressions of the game!
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch) - June 4

Speaking of battle royale and esports, Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode is getting a new season soon! The previous spy-themed season is coming to an end, albeit a week later than planned, due to the current pandemic. Despite the delay, a new season of Fortnite is always an exciting thing to behold - even if you do it from the sidelines. After the dramatic kick-off to Chapter 2, what might we see in Season 3?
Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Switch) - June 5

If you’re into classic board games like Checkers and Chess, this seems like a no-brainer to pick up. This nifty collection brings a massive amount of classic games to the Nintendo Switch - and it’s not all about Ludo and Mini Shogi! The collection also comes with a couple of other minigames such as Fishing, Team Tanks, Shooting Gallery and Golf. Seems like a pretty great collection of multiplayer party games, if you ask me.
Command & Conquer Remastered Collection (PC) - June 5

Remember how disappointed we were when Electronic Arts showed off a brand new Command & Conquer game at E3 2018 - only for it to be a mobile spin-off? Well, this might not be a true sequel either - but it’s the next best thing. This collection features remastered versions of both Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert, along with their three expansion packs. These games are pretty legendary, in their own right!
Desperados 3 (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One) - June 16

We rarely see the release of a new Wild West-themed game, so this is something to celebrate! Desperados 3 is a real-time tactical game with great-looking isometric visuals. If you’re itching for more Red Dead Redemption 2-like goodness, it might be worth experiencing the same setting a very different way.
The Last of Us Part II (PlayStation 4) - June 19

We’re finally here. Naughty Dog has delivered some truly unmissable gaming experiences - from The Last of Us’ incredible story to Uncharted 4’s spectacular action setpieces. This looks like the biggest, most visually impressive Naughty Dog game yet, and that alone is something to be excited for. Personally, I’m just looking forward to diving back into the lives of Ellie and Joel - and see what happened after the first game.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch) - June 23

Nostalgia alert! This is a full remake of the 2003 game of the same name - a 3D platformer much like Super Mario Odyssey. You’ll have to defend Bikini Bottom from an army of Plankton’s robots, causing chaos as either SpongeBob, Patrick or Sandy. There will be plenty of bosses to fight when you’re not collecting precious items, alongside new multiplayer modes.
Pokémon Sword and Shield: Isle of Armor expansion (Switch) - Sometime in June

If your copy of Pokémon Sword or Shield (or both) has been left unused since completion, here’s a great reason to dive back into the Galar region. The game is getting two big expansions, the first of which is set to arrive this month. These expansions will finally bring previously missing Pokémon back into the fold, including a couple old Legendaries!
The Isle of Armor will have you battling through one of two different martial arts-themed towers, with a new Legendary Pokémon waiting for you at the end of it all. Personally, I’m just looking forward to battling old Legendaries again.
