AFA Creators Super Fest 2024 in pictures: A visual feast for fans of Japanese pop culture
Were you at the AFA Creators Superfest 2024 exhibition over the weekend?
Note: This feature was first published on 29 July 2024.
The AFA Creators Super Fest is a celebration of regional creators and their passions with fans, and returns for the second time this year.
As with all AFA events and exhibitions, AFA Creators Super Fest is also an opportunity for cosplayers to come out in full force in their favourite costumes.
The activities are not just limited to Hall 3, where the main activities and booths are housed. Right outside the hall, cosplayers posed for photography enthusiasts in temporary setups.
One of my favourite attractions at AFA CSR 24 is this awesome-looking Tamiya race track. Unfortunately there wasn't any scheduled races yesterday and I also didn't get to see anyone with a Tamiya race car testing out the track.
A key highlight of AFA CSF is the chance for fans to meet their favourite content creator (or cosplayer) from the region.
Fans will also get have the opportunities to buy merchandises of their favourite cosplayers, such as photo cards, wall posters, and even the chance for a photo with them.
In fact, some queues could take hours before fans get to interact with their favourite cosplayer.
Like content creator, Ying Tze (IG: @yingtze) for example. The queue at her booth was by far one of the longest at AFA CSF 24, because she also took the time to make small talks with her fans and engage in fan services.
There were other activities at the showfloor too, especially for fans who came dressed as their favourite anime or manga character. This booth, for instance, can take a 360-degree video of you making moves.
For example, like this hilariously-funny Zangief figurine from Street Fighter but dressed in an all-so-wrong and inappropriate costume.
Some booths at the event are clearly geared towards offering fan services for women and young ladies who read shojo manga.
Demon Slayer's latest anime season may have ended recently but the love for Zenitsu Agatsuma (aka the Thunder Breathing demon slayer) continues, as seen in this very cool graffiti art.
There's also a space for live music performances at AFA CSF, with singers (some in cosplay mode) performing anime hit songs.
Cosplay competition! The quality of cosplayers at this year's AFA CSF is quite astounding to be honest.
My personal favourite has to be this dude decked out in a Helldiver costume (from our GOTY Helldivers 2). "Managed Democracy" forever!
Special guest cosplayers for this year's AFA CSR include Non from Japan (far left) and Knite (left) from Australia, who are also part of the cosplay competition's judging panel.
See you again, AFA CSF!
