If you watched the video from Apple announcing the release of the M4 MacBook Pro last year, you’ll notice that the video mentioned that Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming to Macs “early next year”. Even though developer CD Projekt Red has missed that deadline, fret not, because it’s finally coming.

To be precise, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available to play on Macs this Thursday, on 17 July 2025, at 9pm, to be exact.

For those unfamiliar with the title, Cyberpunk 2077 was released in 2020, and it was easily one of the most eagerly anticipated games of that time. It’s an action RPG set in a futuristic dystopian city called Night City, where you play a mercenary named V who has to uncover a mystery involving him and a legendary rockstar and terrorist called Johnny Silverhand (voiced by Keanu Reeves). If you want to find out more about the game, read our review here.

At any rate, Apple says Cyberpunk 2077 will run on any Apple Silicon Mac (including the M1) with 16GB or more unified memory and running macOS 15.5 or later.

And to be clear, the version coming to Macs is the Ultimate Edition. This includes the expansion Phantom Liberty, which stars Idris Elba as Solomon Reed. The game will also contain every major update and patch released so far, including Patch 2.3, which introduces a new photo mode, extra cars, and more.

To ensure optimum performance for Macs, the game will feature “For this Mac” graphics presets, which are supposedly individually optimised for every Apple Silicon Mac model. The game will also have “dynamically calibrated HDR” optimised for Apple XDR displays. Another noteworthy feature is that the Mac version of Cyberpunk 2077 features head-tracked Spatial Audio that is exclusive to AirPods.

For those interested in the more technical aspects of the game, it utilises Apple’s Tile-Based Deferring Rendering technique, which improves performance and memory efficiency by dividing the screen into small tiles and then processing each tile separately.

CD Projekt Red also announced that the game will support Apple’s Metal 4 API later this year via a software update, which should improve both performance and image quality.
