There are a number of graphics card vendors vying for the remaining few graphics chipset producers in the industry, but have you noticed Sparkle? No, they are not associated with the toothpaste industry, but you are forgiven for not knowing Sparkle as a graphics card company. Unfortunately, their lack of advertising has prevented them becoming the average computer Joe’s graphics card brand such as Hercules and ATI.

Based in Taiwan with their technology arm in U.K., Sparkle Computer Co., Ltd. has solely concentrated on multimedia products, particularly on graphics cards since 1982. Besides retail boxed graphics cards, their major areas of operation is in supplying OEM and ODM businesses with their graphics cards, which is another reason why they do not engage in much publicizing. With 20 years under their belt and counting, one wonders how well Sparkle has mastered the trade in graphics cards and what to expect from their products.

Just when we had thoughts of Sparkle, a large canister package arrived at the Hardware Zone labs. Hand delivered to us, we realized that within the aluminum canister lies a graphics card from Sparkle. Well, we have seen fancy boxes of all kinds to suitcase-like packagings from Triplex, but never a can for a graphics card. This is definitely a positive move for Sparkle to garner back retail presence. As the age-old adage goes, “you got to break out of the box to be different” and they literally did just that.

The SP7200T6-PT packaging looks good on its own with its ‘sparkling’ shiny cylindrical aluminum casing. Now we only hope that this does not become a fad, as it would be ludicrous to find yourself one day shopping for graphics cards and find that all the graphics cards come in various types of cans!

Former graphics cards from Sparkle have pretty much been an ordinary fanfare with their graphics cards looking much similar to reference designed cards with the exception of a slightly different heatsink and cooler combination on the graphics chipset and very minimal software pack. This time with their SP7200T6-PT, which is a special Platinum Edition GeForce4 Ti 4600 128MB DDR, Sparkle is no doubt going to make a statement for itself as you will soon witness for yourself.
