Results - Hyper-Threading In Action

Typical benchmarks don't reveal much of Intel's Hyper-Threading technology. So, we had to devise a couple of benchmarks in a multi-tasking environment to fully demonstrate what Hyper-Threading can potentially achieve. In the results below, we loaded the system with either flaskMPEG 0.7.8.39 or XMPEG 4.5 encoding DiVX movies in the background while we run typical benchmarks like Unreal Tournament 2003, 3DMark 2001SE and SPECViewPerf in the foreground. The results are amazingly good. Take a look at the charts below.

With XMPEG 4.5 encoding DiVX in the background, the performance of 3DMark 2001SE will drop very significantly. With Hyper-Threading turned on, you can get close to 30% increase in performance. This means that you can comfortably play any games on the system while having your home movies encoded in the background.

The same goes for SPECViewPerf 7.0 - but you're getting up to 70% more performance with Hyper-Threading.

We saw the best implementation of Hyper-Threading with Unreal Tournament 2003. In the 'flyby' benchmark, we managed to get up to 89% more performance as compared to the same processor without Hyper-Threading enabled.
