New Desktop & Mobile Processor Line-Up
Intel today unveiled a slew of new processors based on the Nehalem architecture and manufactured on Intel's latest 32nm process. The new 2010 Intel Core processor family will be made available across all segments ranging from the more powerful Core i7 to mainstream Core i5 and i3 processors with integrated HD graphics. The 2010 Intel Core range also includes versions for mobile laptops.

The most significant change to the line up would be Intel's inclusion of two of their most sought after performance enhancing technologies, namely Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. These smart and performance enhancing technologies allow users to experience added performance while maintaining balanced energy efficiency. The good thing is, these would no longer only be available exclusively for high-end systems but would now be accessible to mainstream users for a fraction of the cost.
Supporting the 2010 Intel Core processors would be Intel's first single-chip chipset solution known as the Intel 5 Series Chipset. Besides reducing the chip footprint on motherboards, it also allows board manufacturers to simplify their designs leading to smaller motherboards. Part of the simplification was enabled by the integration of graphics into the processor. The new 2010 Intel Core processor family will feature Intel's integrated HD Graphics which promises to deliver smooth high-definition video playback as well as two times the 3D performance (compared to previous generation) to enable casual 3D gaming. Of course, Intel's integrated graphics could be turned off on the fly to enable higher performance discrete graphics for those who intend to game on their notebooks. Known as Intel Switchable Graphics, this feature will allow users to switch between integrated and discrete for users who want to balance between battery life and performance.
