Samsung partners SingTel to provide more content for Smart TV consumers in Singapore

SINGAPORE - Samsung announced that it will be providing more content for Smart TV consumers via its two newly developed SingTel Applications and Samsung 3D VOD service from 1 July 2011.

With a vision to provide consumers with an expanded, easy-to-navigate selection of content and applications, Samsung has partnered SingTel to develop two Smart TV applications – SingTel Video Store and SingTel Video Search.

SingTel Video Search enables consumers to access the desired web video content in SD, HD and 3D content that can be found through an online catalogue. Apart from movies, consumers also get a wide variety of content ranging from entertainment to news and can easily search for videos across multiple video sites. The 3D video search engine will also bring true-to-life content right to the user’s living room.

SingTel Video Store is an online video store with Asian and other international content. It is the first such store on the new range of internet TVs with the option to watch directly on your TV, without the use of a set-top box. Users can preview the clips with thumbnails, descriptions and watch movie trailers of upcoming movies or stream movies.

In addition, owners of Samsung Smart TVs will be able to access the 3D VOD content at no additional cost by downloading the ‘Explore 3D’ application available on Samsung Apps from 1 July 2011. A total of 20 3D clips will be made available.

During the initial pilot phase, the 3D content will include movie trailers, music videos, children classics, as well as lifestyle videos. As part of Samsung’s collaboration with Dreamworks, the service will feature exclusive 3D movie trailers from How to train your Dragon, Shrek: The Final Chapter and the latest Kungfu Panda 2 as well as music videos from popular Korean bands - Girls Generation, Super Junior, and BoA. There are also eight 45-minute documentaries produced for IMAX theatres. Samsung expects to increase the number of clips available on demand to 100 by end 2011.

Since its initial launch in Korea in March 2011, Samsung 3D VOD has generated one million views in the first 100 days. Data has shown that Smart TV users have watched Samsung 3D VOD content 10,000 times a day on average and increasing to 20,000 views a day in May 2011.

The introduction of 3D VOD service is in line with Samsung’s strategy of expanding its 3D TV market. As the market leader of 3D TV, its Smart TV offers a wide range of features including 3D, Smart TV capabilities, and industry-leading premium design. Its Active Shutter 3D technology also provides the best and brightest HD picture quality, motion clarify, and most optimal viewing angles for a truly immersive 3D experience.
