Intel has launched its Atom-based Minnowboard that is seen as a direct competitor to the Raspberry Pi. This board is jointly developed by the Intel Open Source Technology Center and Circuitco, with the primary aim of introducing the Intel x86 architecture to the embedded systems community.

Intel is reported to be dropping the facial recognition feature from its Web TV service set-top box. This feature was intended to deliver customized programming to different family members. However, due to certain technical issues, Intel will do away with this feature.

Intel has announced its new SSD 530 Series of high-performance, high-end SSDs. The new drives will come in a variety of form factors, including mSATA and M.2, and capacity points, from 80GB to 480GB.
Intel will release a microcode patch that will block the CPU overclocking capabilities of non-Z87 motherboards. This is in response to motherboard manufacturers, who have offered unofficial overclocking support for unlocked 4th generation Intel Core processors on their H87, B85 and H81 boards.

Intel recently announced that its new range of Y-Series fourth generation (Haswell) processors will be shipping to manufacturers later in the year. These low powered chips are said to have a 4.5W scenario design power (SDP), and will power devices such as tablets and hybrid PCs.

Intel has revealed additional details for its second generation of Atom C2000 systems on a chip (SoCs). Previously known as Avoton and Rangeley, these 22nm SoCs are part of Intel's broader strategy to build data centers. In turn, these centers will form cloud computing infrastructures of the future.

Intel is beta testing set-top boxes from its Internet TV services, with more than 2,000 company employees located in three different states in the US. The trials are alleged to have started as early as March this year, and the testing contingent is set to grow as more employees are included.
