Qualcomm Becomes World's Third Largest Semiconductor Supplier
Qualcomm has become the world's third largest supplier of semiconductor chips. This is according to IHS iSuppli who has been tracking the semiconductor market and it stated that Qualcomm looks set to end the year with a stunning 27.2% growth in semiconductor revenue.

Globalfoundries Achieves Full Independence on its Third Anniversary
Globalfoundries has become an independent foundry company on its third anniversary. The Abu Dhabi-based tech consortium Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) has acquired AMD's remaining minority stake in Globalfoundries to become its sole owner.

Molybdenite - the New Semiconductor Material?
Researchers from Switzerland have reportedly discovered a way to use molybdenite to make semiconductor transistors that are free of silicon, the traditional material used in semiconductors. Molybdenite is touted as an alternative material to overcome the miniaturization limits of silicon.

TSMC 28nm Technology in Volume Production

IBM and 3M to Develop Adhesives to Build Stacks of Semiconductors
Glue and stack them high! IBM and 3M have joined forces to create a special glue with a goal to bond entire wafers into densely stacked silicon "towers".
