Google and Facebook have teamed up to build a direct connection to Asia. In a recent announcement, both technology giants said they would be working with the Pacific Light Data Communications Company and TE SubCom to build the first direct undersea connection between Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

Facebook has announced a partnership with game engine company Unity to build a desktop gaming platform like Steam. The downloadable app would support traditional Facebook games, iOS and Android mobile games that have been ported over, and likely even more demanding titles like those usually found on Valve's client.

More than four billion people around the world don't have access to the Internet (and by extension Facebook). Mark Zuckerberg wants to change that with the open-source OpenCellular platform, a shoebox size device that can deliver wireless connectivity to up to 1,500 people as far as 10km away.
